South Florida Storytelling News

May 2010

Remember the days of sitting around the radio and listening to those great old stories?

I don’t either – I’m not old enough. But I do enjoy the radio stories of today, an old tradition with a new urban feel. Tune in on Sundays to National Public Radio, WLRN 91.3. You can hear The Public Storyteller with Dr.Caren Neile at 4:00 and at 7:00 p.m. on Sundays in May you can hear stories from The Moth a storytelling slam sensation from New York that is sweeping the nation. Think of VOX but bigger.

The Moth is dedicated to promoting the art of storytelling. The Moth celebrates the ability of stories to honor the diversity and commonality of human experience, and to satisfy a vital human need for connection.

“The success of The Moth is one example of the phenomenon of storytelling that is gaining momentum nationwide. In The Moth’s case, these narrative sessions are fast becoming an institution.” - The New York Times

Telling Stories to Children, a 4 Day Course with Judith Black in the seaport town of Marblehead, MA 01945
Every year, since 1988, people who love and utilize storytelling have gathered from all over this country and arrived in Marblehead MA for an in depth exploration of the art of telling, themselves as tellers, and the possibilities of how they might use this ancient and resonant art form to transform their lives and those of the people they work with. Educators of all stripes, ministers, rabbis, therapists, social workers, business leaders, entertainers have used this class as a springboard for integrating storytelling into their lives and work. Morning workshops, afternoon coaching, tellings to authentic children, good food (home made pastries every morning!) and informal gatherings shape these days. Massachusetts PDP’s offered.
